TURN ON THE FAUCET! 3
Good morning, my brothers and sisters! As we gather together with a cup of coffee this morning, I pray we gather with hearts and minds upon and seeking the anointing of the power of the Holy Spirit!
I am excited today about sharing with you what I call the attributes of the Holy Spirit—simple terms we will discuss which I consider are key qualities or characteristics that the Holy Spirit brings to us based upon Scripture.
Please know what I share comes from me, however, it is not the “all saying word” about the Holy Spirit. In fact, I would share perhaps it is just a foundational glimpse of what the Holy Spirit is— which allows you to experience HIM for yourself! This would be my greatest joy!
There is no theologian I know that is the supreme authority about the attributes of the Holy Spirit. In fact, that’s very good to share with you! No human being on this side of heaven can really grasp the height, the depths, the anointing, the power, the glory, of how the Holy Spirit moves and works within a child of God! However, the Holy Spirit is a profound, illusive, but real experience for those willing to turn the faucet on!
I would humbly share with you at the beginning of our reflection that is good, for us as His children, to simply be open to allow the Holy Spirit to show up in your life! May we simply endeavor to do one thing—-to believe in HIM and turn the faucet on!
With the above affirmed, I now share with you the following attributes of the Holy Spirit which I consider important to know:
QUESTION: First, let us discuss what an attribute is? I really like the following definition of an attribute, so therefore I share it with you to consider:
“The word “attribute” can be defined as a quality, characteristic, or feature that is inherent to someone or something. Essentially, attributes help in identifying, describing, or classifying entities based on their specific characteristics.”
Here are the KEY attributes of the Holy Spirit that I hear and value, as reflected in Scripture:
1. Trinity—Three in ONE: The Holy Spirit is recognized as a distinct person of the Trinity, possessing intellect, emotions, and will. (Acts 5:3-4)
2. Comforter and Advocate; He is described as the Comforter (Paraclete) who offers support, counsel, and encouragement. (John 14:16, 26)
3. Guide and Teacher: The Holy Spirit guides believers into all truth and teaches them the ways of God. (John 16:13)
4. Empowerment: He empowers believers for service, granting spiritual gifts that equip them for ministry and witness. (Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
5. Conviction of Sin: The Holy Spirit convicts individuals of sin, righteousness, and judgment, bringing awareness of their need for redemption. (John 16:8)
6. Sanctification: He plays a crucial role in the process of sanctification, helping believers grow in holiness and Christlikeness. (Romans 8:13-14)
7. Presence of God: The Holy Spirit dwells within believers, signifying God’s presence and making them His temple. (1 Corinthians 3:16)
8. Unity: He works to create unity within the body of Christ, bringing believers together in love and fellowship. (Ephesians 4:3-4)
PAUSE: As we conclude our cup of coffee, let’s pause right now and go back over the above list slowly. As you do, which attributes jump out to you? I am praying for the Holy Spirit to show up in your life!
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; Philippians 1:6 NKJV
