ANOTHER CURVE BALL!
You know about those frustrating curve balls, don’t you? Yep, just when things seem to be ok, something happens, it’s like a dark cloud has descended upon you!
Friday had arrived, hallelujah! End of first week of brain cancer treatment! Debby and I are full of joy, reflecting how blessed this week has been — incredible despite all the pain of the battle! We are both so excited to go home for the weekend, yahoo!!!
I am excited to get back in my own bed! I am excited to watch football with my son Aaron. I am excited to see family, especially my grandchildren who bring me such joy! Two short days of better surroundings, before Sunday trip back to Duke to start second week of treatment. All was good. Late checkout, and Big Red appt at 1pm. Hope to be home by 6pm!
Then — CURVE BALL!
We are packed and almost ready to head to car shop to get Big Red, when Ray’s phone rang. “Mr Prescott I am so sorry to have to say we cannot fix your truck. In fact please do not even try to drive here right now. Due to the rainfall from the storm, the area around the shop is flooding!”
WOW! Debby and I hear the discussion. We look into each other’s eyes, reality is setting in, we are not going home. Our hearts are sad. I am very disappointed! What to do now?
Ray and I quickly agree that it would be best to just stay put in the Hotel. However we had already checked out, what now? Thankfully, the Hotel manager Johnathan, who knows us well by now, stopped by at that moment.
Question, how many of you meet the manager of hotel when you stay there? You say, only when there is a problem! Yes, our Big Red, SMASHED WINDOW disaster, had opened a door to meet Johnathan.
So we share our issue with him, and he says for us to stay right here and let him see what he can do to help. “Mr. Lewis please know that the hotel is booked for the weekend due to the big football game between UNC and Duke. However, with the storm, there is a chance some people may cancel.”
Oh my, my heart drops as I hear what he just said as he walks to his office, that’s a HUGE game tomorrow! I forgot about it. Minutes pass by… Ray and I stare at each other wondering what Jonathan will say when he returns. What other choice do we really have? It’s still raining and Big Red has no window! Plus we imagine the other hotels close by are probably full as well.
“Come Lord Jesus”, I say, “We need some help again, please bring some sunshine in midst of this darkness I whisper.”
We see Jonathan approaching, hard to determine if he has good news. What would it be….
He has good news! Indeed he did have a few cancellations already! He worked on moving a few of the arriving guests around in the hotel, so that we could stay in our same room for the weekend! Plus, since the rate was high for the game weekend, 249.00 night, he said that he would discount it to 139.00, the rate we were already paying!
Oh how blessed we are!! I say — “Hurry Ray let’s go tell Debby the good news!!”
THANK YOU JESUS!!
Question:
Why so hard for us sometimes to see light in darkness?
Why does Pastor Jerry still struggle sometimes when curve ball arrives?
Learning so much, while in the battle with brain cancer!
Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
NKJV
THANK YOU JESUS!!!
One other silly question today:
What kind of coffee do you like to drink?
I love a big hot cup of dark roast Gevalia!!
