SACRED GROUND
Brothers and sisters, you are receiving a very special reflection during your first cup of coffee this morning! This reflection comes from beloved bride and best friend in the world, Debby.
“Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” Genesis 28:16
Turn off the tv, put down the book, slide your phone to off. Release the distractions; Breathe deeply and ponder…”surely the Lord is in this place”…am I aware of it?
When I was young I so desperately wanted to be older. As a teenager I just couldn’t wait! I couldn’t wait to; go to college, get married, have children, a dream job, a dream car, a dream house…the list goes on and on. But all along I now wonder, “What have I missed, was the Lord in this place?”
I attended a graduation recently and there before me sitting in the stadium were the graduates on the field facing the stage. But it seemed that not one of them was actually looking at the stage, listening to the various speakers. Instead, their heads were bowed; but not in prayer! They were either bowed over their phones living in another place and time, or recording themselves and their friends in the crowd. One of our granddaughters wished out loud, “They should look up and live in the now.” Am I living in the now?
How often have I asked God to speak to me without pausing to listen? He is here right now waiting to commune, to share, to love; but I must first slow down and open myself to receive Him. Psalm 46:10 tells me to “Be still and know that I am the Lord God…”. So come now Lord Jesus, consecrate this place where I am; make me aware of you. Make my home, make my heart Your sacred ground. Make me aware of You today.
