COFFEE TIME!

Its early Thursday morning, 3 Oct, 4:22am and I am enjoying my 1st cup of coffee with Jesus right now. How blessed I am!

Debby blessed me yesterday as we were getting ready to leave for my treatment at Duke. She said, “honey it’s Wednesday, it’s hump day, and honey you are at the midpoint of your chemo radiation treatment!” I looked at her and said, “what honey?”, and she said, “yes it’s your midway point”. As I sat in my wheelchair, taking in all thosea precious words, joy just surrounding me, and I lift it up my hands and said, “Thank You Jesus!”

This morning, I’m excited about tomorrow. Why? Tomorrow after treatment we get to go home for the weekend! I shared this with a friend yesterday, and she said “yes, you’re coming home to Onslow county!” I laughed! I said “I must admit, I don’t think of it like that but YES, I’m coming home to Onslow County!”

I look forward to getting in my home, at my most beautiful community of Rock Creek. I am excited about getting in my big chair, laying in my own bed. I am mostly excited about sitting in our sunroom, looking out over our pond and the beautiful golf course, just pondering the mysteries of this spiritual journey in the fight of this brain cancer.

I am very excited to get back and share a home cooked meal with family! My son Aaron, ALew as I call him, is with us and he will be staying with us this weekend, and bring us back to the hotel on Sunday for next week’s treatment. ALew is a great chef on Trager smoker, maybe he’ll smoke a brisket Saturday!

How precious, I am full of joy right now thinking of going home!

Home is something that is precious isn’t it? In fact I find it a little hard to put into words right now. Part of it is my past, rather our past, as Debby and I moved so often over the 30 years as servants in the Air Force . Since our marriage in 1979, I believe, we have moved now 17 times!

I share this statement with you to emphasize how precious it is for me right now to think of returning to my home in RockR Creek tomorrow morning. Debby and I have been blessed with our new home which we built now five years ago. I never dreamed of how precious this place would be to me right now.

With all this stated my brothers and sisters, I ask you this question, “Where do you call

home?”.

Another simple but rather silly question, right? You know the answer, don’t you? Yes this is the spiritual point of Pastor Jerry’s reflection this morning: I am a child of a living God, as such, I am a citizen of Heaven! It is my Christian heritage.

This simple, powerful statement has blessed me immensely during this battle against cancer. As a citizen of Heaven, I have been blessed with the care of my Heavenly Father in a very dynamic, personal, and special way over the last few weeks. My Heavenly Father sent some angels to be with me. He has moved in circumstances for my care. He is at work, floating over the waves of the ocean toward this Coastal boy caring for him deeply! Even this morning as I share these words, I completely affirm—I don’t understand how He does it. I just believe He does! How precious is it being a child of the living God!

I hope this spiritual reflection, as you ponder it with your 1st cup of coffee in the morning with the Lord Jesus, prompts you to consider the power, the joy, the peace of what it means for you as a child of God to know you are citizen of the kingdom of the Lord God, Almighty!

My dear brothers and sisters, perhaps you have not thought of this in a while. So I humbly ask would you spend just a few minutes with Jesus right now and thank Him for the gift of Heaven? Would you ponder your own journey of moves in your life? Would you reflect just for a few minutes on what brought you to the home that you live in right now on this side of Heaven?

As I close out this reflection for this morning, I too, will linger a little longer here, reminiscing with Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit about the journey He has allowed and shaped for Debby and I on this side of Heaven. Debby is fond of telling me, we’re all walking each other HOME!

May you have a dynamic day today!

But our citizenship is in Heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Phillipians 3:20

THANK YOU JESUS!
